Cookie Policy
Last updated: 3 May 2025
This policy explains how The Felixstowe Barnacle uses cookies and similar technologies on https://felixstowebarnacle.co.uk. We keep cookie use to a minimum. We do not use advertising cookies or sell data to ad networks.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember information about your visit — for example, whether you are logged in. Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser (session cookies); others remain on your device for a set period (persistent cookies).
2. Cookies We Use
The table below lists all cookies set by this site. We do not set any advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
| Cookie name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
app_session_id | Strictly necessary | Keeps admin users logged in after authenticating via Manus OAuth. Without this cookie the admin panel cannot function. | Session / 7 days |
sidebar:state | Functional | Remembers whether the admin sidebar is open or closed between page loads. | 7 days |
Local Storage
We also use browser local storage (not cookies) for the following purposes:
- oauth_return_path — stores the page you were trying to reach before being redirected to log in, so you are returned there after authentication. Cleared immediately after use.
- sidebar-width — remembers your preferred admin sidebar width. Stored locally and never transmitted to our servers.
- theme — remembers your light/dark theme preference in the admin panel.
Local storage data is stored only in your browser and is never sent to our servers or shared with third parties.
3. Analytics
We use Umami Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Umami is a privacy-first analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not collect personally identifiable information. It records anonymised page views and referrer data only. No data is shared with advertising networks.
Because Umami does not set cookies or collect personal data, it does not require consent under UK GDPR or the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
4. Third-Party Cookies
We do not load third-party advertising scripts or social media tracking pixels. If you visit an external link from this site (for example, an event booking page), that site may set its own cookies. We have no control over those cookies and recommend you review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
5. Managing Cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. The links below explain how to do this in the most common browsers:
Deleting or blocking strictly necessary cookies (such as app_session_id) will prevent the admin panel from working. Public-facing pages of the site will continue to function without any cookies.
6. Your Consent
The strictly necessary cookie (app_session_id) is set only when you log in to the admin panel. It is essential for authentication and does not require separate consent under PECR. The functional sidebar cookie is set only in the admin panel context.
Public visitors to the site are not subject to any cookie consent requirement because no cookies are set during a standard public browsing session.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
